RSS Feeds
I'm going to attempt to add some RSS feeds to this blog in order to maintain up-to-the minute coverage of the Hot Stove (aka off) season. It should provide some legitimacy or could completely negate the outrageous claims we've been making. Comments welcome. Also, Professor Hoppe or whoever is grading this for class, I hope I don't get points off for putting an RSS feed on my blog instead of creating an entirely new webpage. Thanks.

A Country for Old Men?
Red Sox Captain Jason Varitek (at the ripe young age of 37) filed for free agency today and it looks like his agent, Scott Boras, will try to shop him to teams based on his leadership and game-calling ability. Personally, after watching him for the last 8 years, I don't think there's enough juice left in his bat for him to hit the broad side of a barn. Sources have mentioned the Detroit Tigers as a team interested in Varitek since they're looking to replace Pudge Rodriguez (who they dealt to the Yankees for local idiot Kyle Farnsworth). That being said, the Sox are definitely targeting catchers such as Jarod Saltalamacchia and Gerald Laird of the Rangers because none of their homegrown talent can immediately step in. What the Sox should do is offer 'Tek a 2 year contract with incentives (i.e. if he hits over .250, give him an extra $150,000) so that he can mentor whoever they get in the offseason and then retire with the team and get brought on as a special consultant or coach or something.
In other news, the Boston Globe reported that the Herald reported that the Sox are looking to exercise 42-year-old knuckleballer Tim Wakefield's club option for 2009. He is the longest tenured Red Sox player and they would be retarded to not do this. The timetable for completing the signing is 5 days after the World Series ends...get to work Theo and Co.!
UPDATE 6:17 pm: The Sox picked up Wake's 4 million dollar option for one more year. Now if only he can show fellow knuckler Charlie Zink how to command his pitches they'll have a replacement for when he retires...
Now for my outrageous proposed free agent signing of the day:
Manny Ramirez to the Kansas City Royals for 7 years and $180 million
...you know he did look pretty comfortable in Dodger blue. Royal blue isn't that much different. One stipulation of the signing, Manny is the only player on the team other than Gil Meche due to their combined salaries totaling more than half the team's total right now at 57,855,500.

Breaking the ice
It's good to finally get some of this ridiculousness documented. I'd like to start by saying welcome to our unrealistic and incredulous display of trade rumors that we'd like to start. We don't have a college baseball team at our school so all that we care about is the pros. I set up a poll to see who people think will grab the AL MVP, please vote. If you think it's somebody else, please post who and why and I'll probably fight with you about it. Let the games begin.
